Mew Review: Cat Water Fountain
Hi lovely. Do you ever tire of having to clean then refill the cat’s water bowl everyday? Would you like the option to stretch that task to 7 or 14 days? If so, you might be interested in purchasing a cat water fountain. This review is based off a 2 month and 20 day observation.
After washing and assembling the fountain, I stayed a few feet away to allow Leilah and Sebastian to inspect it. I’m so glad I kept the water bowl out as a backup because these two furballs were so unimpressed. In fact, they almost seemed frightened of the fountain. Several hours later, Leilah “The Risk taker” examined the machine from a safe distance. She looked at it…sniffed then walked away. And that’s the end of that story for the day.
Two days of inactivity, I took each cat and dipped a paw in the water as a way to show them it’s harmless and to mark their scent with it. They scurried away to a safe place to lick their paw. Within a few hours, Leilah tried it out. A few more times that day, she returned to drink out of it. On the night of Day 3, I removed the stand by water bowl to encourage Sebastian of trying it out. He is way more cautious and suspicious of things (new cat) so he doesn’t approach things with vigor, unlike Leilah.
By the afternoon on the 4th day, Baby Boy took his first licks then several more times that day. Officially by day 5, both cats were unafraid of the fountain. They even sleep and lay next to it now.
My recommendation: have a water bowl close by so they can wean off from it and also feel comfortable near the machine. Give them plenty of space to examine it on their own. Bring them close to the fountain when you feel they are ready.
This is a 3-part object that requires minimal cleaning. I use warm soapy water and their own little dish cloth to wash this down every 2 weeks. Once you’ve refilled the container, replace the filter inside with a new one. Be careful not to wet the adapter and always read the instruction manual thoroughly.
Mew-joy!
