Juneteenth 2021 Expectations
Juneteenth was last weekend and man, if Covid-19 wasn’t happening, I know the world would be joyously showing.out. I have high expectations for next year though. June 19th will fall on a Saturday, leaving opportunity for people to participate and celebrate together.
In 2021, I want to see gift exchanges, parades, concerts, community events, Black people and their businesses heavily advertised and supported on all social platforms. Juneteenth traditions established and practiced thereafter and many more positive activities in honor of Black culture would also be dope. We still have a long way to go for social justice and equality but it is amazing seeing people recognize Juneteenth as an important part of American history. Whether the U.S. will recognize it as a national holiday, I still want to encourage everyone Black and non-Black to celebrate June 19th respectfully (that means no dashikis white people, c’mon now [groans]) and festively.
Do you have any suggestions or intentions on how to celebrate Juneteenth? Please comment and let’s talk. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Love,
Bees Honey
